Phil Verbinnen: To take up his dream role at Oakwood

OAKWOOD theme park will be run by new hands this season as Carmarthenshire man Phil Verbinnen steps up to take on his dream role.

Phil, who is originally from Ammanford, attended Amman Valley School and went on to join Europe’s largest provider of children’s resident activity holidays and the UK’s leading outdoor education provider, PGL.

Speaking on his new position at Oakwood, Phil explained: “I am thrilled to be taking on the challenge of leading Oakwood Theme Park in what promises to be an incredibly exciting year ahead, not least with the forthcoming 20th anniversary of Megafobia, but also the continued investment across the park.”

Before going into the new role at Oakwood, Phil spent 12 years working throughout the UK and France at various sites for PGL. His most recent position was as operations manager for one of the largest activity sites in the UK; the PGL site in Surrey.

“Like PGL, Oakwood played an important part in my childhood, and it is an honour to have moved home to Wales to take on this great park.”

Oakwood is one of the UK’s leading theme parks, and is sat in more than 90 acres of countryside in Pembrokeshire. Having previously being voted the best ride in the UK, the iconic wooden rollercoaster Megafobia will be celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2016 and with its top speed of over 75kph and a 25 metre drop spiralling towards a lake, the coaster has gained legendary status amongst coaster enthusiasts across the globe.

Phil continued: “The team are working incredibly hard to get the park ready for Easter opening, in what have been very challenging weather conditions.

“Much has been achieved already, but I’m looking forward to seeing the finished results over the coming weeks and months.”

Oakwood will be re-opening for its 2016 season with Phil in charge on March 24.
