Claim police missed cannabis stash

A CONVICTED cannabis grower claimed that police failed to find three-quarter of an ounce of the drug when they busted his operation – leading to his re-arrest ten days after his conviction.

24-year-old Timothy Mills pleaded guilty to possession of 19.2 grams of herbal cannabis when he appeared at Llanelli Law Courts on Thursday (Apr 5).

Prosecuting, Sian Vaughan said that Mills had previously appeared in court in Aberystwyth on December 6, where he pleaded guilty to growing five cannabis plants and possessing 140g of the class B drug.

On December 16, officers attended his house as a result of his community order, and noticed a strong smell of cannabis, before locating the drugs.

Mitigating, David Williams said that Mills, who worked as a self-employed handyman, had been complying with the terms of his community order from the initial sentencing, and had been carrying out unpaid work.

District Judge David Parsons remarked that appearing in court for a related matter so shortly after sentencing meant that Mills was approaching the custody threshold.

However, Mills explained that the cannabis was left over from before the time of his initial arrest. When asked if the police had somehow missed it, he replied ‘yeah, they didn’t find it’.

Mills was sentenced to 60 additional hours of unpaid work, and ordered to pay costs totalling £170.
