Costs of West Wales MPs revealed

Simon Hart MP

FIGURES released this week showed that Jonathan Edwards’ costs as an MP were the lowest in Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion.

The costs, which are not to be confused with personal MP expenses, account for the total amount that Members of Parliament spend to conduct their duties as elected members.

This includes office rental, employing members of staff, travel, and accommodation.

In the last financial year, Jonathan Edwards’ costs were £150,581.95.  Nia Griffith’s totaled £167,582.47, while Simon Hart was the most expensive, with costs adding up to £186,766.33.  Mark Williams, the Lib Dem MP for Ceredigion, had costs of £179,512.44.

Commenting on the figures, Plaid Cymru AM Rhodri Glyn Thomas stressed that the figures released represent the total costs for an MP to undertake their duties, including all staff and office costs: “That said, this is another year that Plaid Cymru’s Jonathan Edwards has undertaken his role as an excellent Member of Parliament whilst saving taxpayers substantial sums of money,” he added.
