Game off as sub suffers suspected heart attack

ambulance2A RUGBY player suffered a suspected heart attack on Saturday (Sept 5) as he was warming up on the sidelines.

The game was abandoned as a result while club physio’s attended to the player who had complained of feeling unwell prior to collapsing.

The Amman United player was put in the recovery position by the physio and an ambulance attended soon after to take him to hospital.

The player was taken ill shortly before half time and it is likely that the game will be replayed.

A spokesperson for the Wales Ambulance Service said they were called to the scene at 1.59pm on Saturday (Sept 5).

The spokesperson added: “We did attend a 999 call and conveyed a male patient to Morriston Hospital in Swansea. A rapid response vehicle with a paramedic in the car arrived first and then an emergency ambulance.”

The game between Amman United and Penclawdd was evenly poised with Penclawdd leading 10-8 when the match was called off.

News of the incident travelled quickly with Aberystwyth and Gowerton Rugby Clubs both sending their well-wishes.

On Sunday, Sept 6, Clwb Rygbi Yr Aman tweeted: “Glad to hear Dean is looking ok and is on the mend! He would like to thank everyone for the support!”
