Crabb meets with Barclays to raise branch closure concerns

FOLLOWING the announcement by Barclays that they will close their Milford Haven branch, Preseli Pembrokeshire MP Stephen Crabb met with Barclays Bank directors to raise the concerns that he and his constituents have.

Speaking to Alan March (Deputy Community Banking Director) and Jonathan Brenchley, (Head of Corporate Relations Wales & West) the Conservative MP highlighted the impact the branch closure would have on the town of Milford Haven and its residents.

In response they pointed to the declining number of customers using the branch and the sharp increase in users of online and mobile phone banking.

Commenting following the meeting, Stephen Crabb MP said: “Most of the current services at the branch are available at the Post Office although some people have suggested to me that there are often lengthy queues at the post office in the town centre. The Barclays team explained that members of the branch staff in Milford Haven branch will help customers with the transition, making it as seamless as possible, by walking them through the Barclays services offered at the Post Office and online/on the app.

“I also asked for assurances that no staff would be made redundant and they stated that the employees have been offered positions in Tenby or Haverfordwest.

“Customers can continue to contact me if they have further concerns they wish me to raise.”

The branch is due to close July 12th.
