HAVING already completed the asset transfer for the Cwmaman Community Centre, an agreement in principle has been reached between Cwmaman Town Council and Carmarthenshire County Council for the transfer of the playgrounds in Cwmaman.

As part of the asset transfer programme, the council are now looking at the transfer of eleven children’s playgrounds, the Cwmaman Bowls Pavilion and a range of other outdoor spaces.

The Town Council will be undertaking a large-scale consultation project within the community over the coming months to identify the best possible options and for the use and enhancement of the assets.

Speaking regarding the asset transfers in Cwmaman, Community Development Officer Rob Venus said: “I see the transfer of these assets as a great opportunity for the local area. Clearly, with increased ownership comes increased work and an increased draw upon the Town Council’s resources. However, I will be seeking to work with local residents in the new year to ensure that we make the absolute best of these playgrounds, outdoor spaces and the Bowls Pavilion.

“I am eager to hear the communities’ ideas and thoughts as to how we can use these assets to help meet the needs of all in the area.

“It is important now for the residents to see that these spaces are their spaces and, as such, they should be involved in their development. I will be facilitating this and looking to hear from members of the public with a passion to see these facilities become something special.”

The Town Council are particularly eager to hear from residents and local community activists who would like to be involved in conducting the consultation.

Rob explained: “The aim behind this is to ensure that we are able to release the capacity within our community members, to allow them to obtain the skills to conduct these projects themselves in the future

“They would be involved in undertaking interviews; helping some of our most vulnerable residents complete surveys; and looking after online aspects of the project and supporting in workshops. In return, the council will be offering these people free training in website development, online surveys, child protection and working with vulnerable adults. They will also have the opportunity to shadow experts in the field of community development and consultation and receive formal recognition from the Town Council for their role in the project.”
