Dog control orders set to change

1211067413u6zGPhC A R M A R T H E N S H I R E Councillors are keen to hear what the public think about new order for controlling dogs before making any decisions on Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPOs) for the county.

The council’s environmental and public protection scrutiny committee are supporting new orders for controlling dogs in public spaces. They recently met to discuss a report on the new available powers to local authorities under the Anti-Social Behaviour Crime and Policing Acts 2014. Former dog control orders were placed under the Clean Neighbourhoods Act.

Councillors are welcoming orders to stop dog fouling in all public places. They have discussed the fact that the problem often comes from dogs who are not on leads. It is under deliberation whether dogs should be kept on leads at all times in public places. It was also put to the committee that dogs should be excluded from areas of county beaches at certain times and from children’s play areas.

All of these issues will go to public consultation before a decision is met.
