Fake doctor scare was a case of ‘mistaken identity’

THE HEALTH BOARD is making efforts to apologise to a member of staff, after were police were called to a hospital to deal with reports of a fake doctor on the wards.

Police investigated reports of a ‘doctor impersonator’ at Glangwili Hospital, Carmarthen, but quickly concluded that it was a matter of mistaken identity.

Red faced hospital officials are now trying to understand what happened.

A spokeswoman for the health board told The Herald: “The health board can confirm that a member of staff raised a concern about an individual they believed to be impersonating a doctor.

“On further investigation we have been able to conclude that this was a simple case of mistaken identity and we are in the process of contacting the individual concerned to apologise for any inconvenience.

“The health board takes the safety of its patients and staff very seriously and as such we encourage everyone to be vigilant and to report anything causing concern.”

A police spokesman said: “Dyfed-Powys Police received a report of suspicious behaviour at Glangwili Hospital on Wednesday, April 26.

“Officers attended and nothing untoward was found to have occurred. Officers were completely satisfied there was no need for further action.”
