PCSO takes on Great Wall of China

A LAMPETER PCSO has taken on a challenging trek, raising more than £5,000 for a children’s hospice in the process.

Ryan Jones is currently hiking along remote sections of the Great Wall of China in aid of Ty Hafan, in Sully.

During the nine-day trip, he and a group of fundraisers will spend five days walking for between six and nine hours, covering parts of the wall rarely visited by tourists.

Speaking before he left on April 29, the dad-of-three said: “I’m really looking forward to taking part, but it looks like a challenge.

“Some of the days we’ll cover eight miles, and they’re saying it’ll take around nine hours to complete.

“Having looked at the different sections, some of them are steps at a 45 degree angle – the terrain looks difficult.”

This is the second challenge Ryan has undertaken for charity, as he previously completed a four nations walk across the UK.

“For this walk I’m part of Team Ty Hafan, and needed to raise £3,000 for them,” he said.

“I had a tour of the hospice last November and it was an eye opener – it’s an amazing place, and the work they do for children is incredible.”

Ryan has so far raised £5103 through events including a beer festival run by the Lampeter Round Table, which he is a member of.
