Green Leader praises Ffwrnes Theatre

Screen Shot 2016-04-06 at 15.00.29ALICE Hooker-Stroud, the new leader of the Wales Green Party and lead Green Party list candidate for Mid and West Wales in the upcoming assembly elections made a visit to Llanelli this week as part of a tour of the region. Alice used the visit to highlight the Ffwrnes Theatre as an example of how being part of the European Union can help promote the green economy in Wales.

Whilst in Llanelli she made a visit to the award-winning Ffwrnes Theatre along with Guy Smith, the Green Party Candidate for Llanelli Constituency. Theatre owner Carwyn Matera-Rogers met her and showed her around the various green technologies that have been used in the theatre including solar electricity and water heating, efficient combined heat and power generation, LED lighting and stage lighting and rainwater harvesting. Alice commented:

“It was a real pleasure to visit Llanelli and meet some of the people who live here. Ffwrnes Theatre is a shining example of the kind of standard of new building that can be achieved. These kinds of positive solutions are exactly what we need to see more of in Wales.

“It is also a fantastic demonstration of the benefits of being part of the European Union. Not only was it partfunded by the EU, but being part of an EU scheme pushed it to meet better standards for sustainability in the building.”

The Green Party of England and Wales strongly supports the campaign to remain in Europe. In a statement put out by the Wales Green Party they said:

“Through EU Structural Funds, Wales has benefited from just over £4billion since 2000, supporting business, research and innovation, helping people into work, increasing skills, improving transport and digital networks, regenerating our communities, and enhancing our environment. Since 2007, EU projects have created 11,900 enterprises and 35,570 jobs, assisted 70,135 people into work, 223,000 to gain qualifications, and 49,245 into further learning.

“The Wales Green Party believes that Europe needs reforming and that every European country has a role to play in building a better Europe. By working with our European neighbours we can tackle climate change, protect wildlife and reduce pollution. The European story should be celebrated. Countries with different histories and cultures have come together, opting to share sovereignty while keeping their own traditions, in order to work together for the common good.”
