AFTER pleading guilty to two offences, a Machynlleth man is ready and willing to work with probation officers, Aberystwyth Magistrates’ Court heard on Wednesday (Oct 12).
Dean Martin Davies, 26 of Machynlleth, pleaded guilty to damaging a property and harassment without violence at the court on September 17 and an adjournment was made for a pre-sentence report to be made.
The first offence occurred on September 14 on Bryn Road in Aberystwyth, where the defendant damaged a cat flap on a front door.
The second offence took place during a period of five days, from September 10, where the defendant harassed the complainant, with knowledge of doing so, through sending multiple text messages, approximately 28 phone calls and making two personal visits.
Prosecuting, Helen Tench told the court that the cat flap was fixed by the landlord of the property.
When interviewed, the defendant denied damaging the property, harassing the complainant and sending the text messages. However, he admitted that he made the phone calls, and he said that he could understand why it would cause alarm or distress.
Defending Davies, Alun Lewis told the court that the defendant made a full and frank admission to the police during ‘two lengthy, emotional interviews’. Davies spent two nights in custody and was remanded to Llanelli Magistrates’ Court.
Mr Lewis went on to say that, as a full-time carpenter, the defendant is genuinely remorseful for his actions and wants to move on with his life.
Following the requirements made by the probation service, magistrates imposed a 24-month community order. During this time, Davies will have to complete 30 sessions of a Building Better Relationships programme, a Rehabilitation Activity Requirement and 120 hours of unpaid work.
Magistrates also imposed a restraining order on Davies until further notice and ordered him to pay a total of £170 in court costs.
