Learn about Ammanford’s care development

Grant-aided improvements to the Black Lion Inn: For cyclists.

AN OPEN invitation to an information day about a new care housing development has been released.

This Friday (Apr 24), people are invited to attend an open day to find out about a new £10m Extra Care Housing development. Run by Family Housing Association Wales, the open day will take place at the Pensioner’s Hall in Ammanford’s Quay Street between 2pm and 6pm.

Attended by advisors, the event will offer advice on eligibility and the range of facilities that will be provided by the modernity of Extra Care Housing. To ensure all enquiries can be answered, there will be representatives from the council’s housing department, the floating support services, benefits and domiciliary care teams, ENS Communication Systems and Age Cymru.

The development is to be delivered by Betws company, TRJ Ltd. It is planned to open in early 2016 and will provide 50 apartments for people over 55. There will be 37 flats that will have one double bedroom and 13 flats with a double bedroom and a single bedroom.

Residents will have individual apartments, with privacy and security, which will allow for a range of social activities. There will be a focus on individual occupants, with independence being well-promoted.

The complex will have community facilities, such as a café, a community lounge, therapy rooms and a restaurant. The development will be a community resource with a guest site for visitors, with a library for internet access.

Jayne Jones, who is the Head of Family Housing’s care and support services, has said: “We have successfully worked in partnership with Carmarthenshire council to design and develop this exciting new scheme to provide modern homes and services for the county’s older residents. We look forward to welcoming the new tenants to the finished building. The information day will be an opportunity for all to find out about the scheme with staff available to explain all about the development and the comprehensive care and support services that will be provided.”
