Llanelli teen accused of hacking and blackmailing TalkTalk

shutterstock_229167559A TEENAGER from Llaneli appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Sept 27) accused of hacking and attempting to blackmail TalkTalk.

Daniel Kelly, 19, is accused of blackmailing the telecoms company for 465 Bitcoins, which is worth approximately £216,000.

In total the teenage from Heol Dinbych faces 14 charges, including eight for blackmail, four for computer hacking and two for fraud.

It is alleged that in October 2015 he launched an attack on TalkTalk’s website to steal customer data.

In addition to this, Kelly is also accused of launching similar attacks against Zippo, a cigarette lighter manufacturer, and an Australian educational business.

He was arrested in November following an investigation and was charged by Scotland Yard detectives on Monday (Sept 26). In total, he is accused of trying to blackmail companies to the sum of £276,000.

In court he entered no plea and was released on conditional bail. He’s set to appear at the Old Bailey on October 10.
