Mike Theodoulou announces his candidature for the County Council

ONE of the leading figures in Burry Port and an active town councillor has announced that he is standing for election as an independent candidate for the County Council.

Mike Theodoulou, who has run the Foothold Group and the Centre for Business and Social Action for the last twenty years, said: “It has been an honour and a privilege to serve as a town councillor for the last five years. Serving my community is something I am very passionate about. I hope that I have made a difference but I am aware that there is so much more to be done for our town.

“Numerous residents have asked me to carry on as a town councillor but to also put my name forward for the County Council. They have told me that most people in our community now feel that it is time for a change at County Hall.

“I think that there is now a growing recognition that we face a difficult and challenging time ahead and what our community needs more than anything else right now is an experienced and forceful individual who has a track record for getting things done.’’

Mike has worked in the public and private sectors, was Chief Executive of one of the largest Housing Associations in the country and has served on numerous Government Boards and Agencies including the NHS Trust, the Big Lottery Fund and Business Connect Wales. He set up and chaired Chamber Wales and led the establishment of the Welsh Development Bank.

Locally he set up and chairs Friends of Burry Port Harbour which has pressurised the County Council into taking action over the Harbour and making available over £4M to improve it.

He has chaired the Governors of Pembrey school for over 5 years in the past and more recently he led the Burry Port negotiations to create the Federation for Glanymor and Bryngwyn schools which has turned round Glanymor and made it one of the best schools in the county. He has said that he is immensely proud of the success of the school and he continues to be a Governor of the Federation.

The Foothold Group and CBSA, led by Mike, have generated over £20M investment into the County and created hundreds of local jobs over the years.
