Police alert of dangerous ‘chicken’ game

DYFED POWYS POLICE are on high alert after a dangerous game of chicken is being played by children in Burry Port.

Residents say they have witnessed children running out in front of cars at Stepney Road and Station Road, near the train station.

PSCO Phil Davies has spoken to a few locals that have seen the game being played.

He said: “This is a very busy road, one of the busiest in Burry Port. I don’t think any school children from the nearby junior school are involved as the woman said they were about 13 or 14. There are no cars parked there as there are yellow lines and it is on a junction so there is no worry they are hiding behind anything. They are just running out in front of traffic. We will certainly be keeping an eye out for this in this area and we will be watching for any sort of anti-social behaviour of this kind.”

PC Martin Pearson pointed out that there has been recent deaths in Powys and they are taking this matter very seriously.

He added: “I would ask everyone to be vigilant in keeping our local children safe and that includes parents, motorists, children and the local community. The recent report of local youths playing ‘chicken’ with cars in Burry Port horrifies me. I would ask all to report any such activity to the police immediately so that we can stop this high risk activity.”
