Police make arrest following Ystradgynlais burglaries

POLICE have arrested a male following a number of burglaries which occurred over the weekend, 11th – 13th December 2020, in and around the Ystradgynlais area.

In total 9 burglaries (and attempt burglaries) were reported to Dyfed-Powys Police.  In addition a raft of suspicious activity calls were reported where a person was seen in gardens or perimeters of properties.

Local officers arrested a male at midday today, Monday 14th December. The male remains in police custody as police carry out further enquiries.  At present, police are not looking for anyone else in relation to the burglaries.

Inspector Gwyndaf Bowen said: “The burglaries were opportunistic and involved indiscriminately looking for insecure properties. Where items were taken, these were small amounts of cash or property. A number of the burglaries were foiled by vigilant householders who caused the thief to flee the scene.”

Police are appealing to the public for any assistance in their enquiries including sightings, descriptions or any CCTV which could be crucial to the case.

Anyone with information that could help officers with their investigation is asked to report it to Dyfed-Powys Police, either online at: bit.ly/DPPContactOnline, by emailing [email protected], or by calling 101. If you are deaf, hard of hearing, or speech impaired text the non-emergency number on 07811 311 908.
