A REGULAR LGBTQ+ evening at The Parrott public house was disrupted on Saturday evening (Apr 14) in what police are treating as a ‘hate incident’.
Two men had entered the premises and were levelling personal and offensive abuse at two others in the bar.
The Police were called at around 10:45pm and removed the abusive men from the premises.
Their swift action in responding to the alleged transphobic incident was praised on the Carmarthen LGBTQ+ Facebook page.
The Parrot has gained an excellent reputation both for its live music and inclusive atmosphere and the incident on Saturday is the first occasion on which police have attended on an LGBTQ+ evening to deal with such an incident.
Dyfed Powys Police told The Herald: “Two men were witnessed making derogatory comments towards two members of the public. The incident is being dealt with as a hate incident.
“The victims will be supported by specially trained Hate Crime Support Officers.
“Anyone with information that can help officers with their investigation is asked to report it by calling 101. If you are deaf, hard of hearing or speech impaired text the non-emergency number on 07811 311 908, quoting Ref: 395 of April 14th.
“Dyfed-Powys Police takes reports of hate crimes and incidents seriously. Any crime or incident motivated by hostility or prejudice towards an individual’s actual or perceived disability, religion or belief, race or ethnicity, sexual orientation or transgender identity will be recorded as a hate crime or incident and will be dealt with in accordance with force policy.
“Victims are encouraged not to suffer in silence but to report hate crime by speaking to Neighbourhood Policing Teams via the 101 non-emergency number or 999 during an emergency. Victims can also report electronically on the True Vision reporting system – www.report-it.org.uk”
