Police welcome rape conviction for St Clears man

POLICE have welcomed a four year prison sentence for a St Clears man who was charged with one count of rape.

James Cole, aged 35,  was sentenced to four years in prison at Swansea Crown Court on Thursday (Jan 25).

He was charged with two counts of rape, which took place in December 2016, and was found guilty following a trial.

DS Andy Davies, of Carmarthen Joint Investigation Unit, said: “We welcome the sentence Cole has received for this despicable crime, which will have a lifelong impact on the victim.

“As a result of bringing this man to justice, it will help prevent further harm to other women.

“The victim of this incident has shown great courage in coming forward and in working with us to bring the case to court, where justice has been served.”

Dyfed-Powys Police would encourage any victims of sexual offences to have the confidence to come forward and report the offence. All reports are dealt with seriously and sensitively. Reports can be made by calling 101.
