Policing base moves out of town centre

Friar’s Park Police Station: Up for sale

CARMARTHEN’S policing team are set to move next door to police HQ in the next couple of weeks.

The base for the team is on the move as part of a Police Estate Modernisation Programme across Dyfed-Powys.

Officers and staff will move to the new base, which is 1.9 miles from the town centre, following improvement works being completed.

Opening hours for the public at the new base will continue as before, Monday to Friday 9.00 am – 2.00pm;  2.40 pm – 5.00 pm.

Work is currently underway to secure a Neighbourhood Policing Base in the town centre. The Friars Park police station is currently on the market for sale.

Superintendent Gary Mills, Carmarthenshire Commander, said: “Our focus is now about spending time in the community working with local people and advances in technology allow us to do this much more.  We really don’t want to spend much time in our police stations.

“There is very little need for Officers and PCSOs to return to a station throughout their shift.  The switchboards, systems and paperwork once associated with policing are now available in the palms of our hands.

“This new base will give us the flexibility to have a base available to us for those times when we need it.  It is important to us that the people of Carmarthen and surrounding community know how to engage with us.”
