A JUVENILE Harbour Porpoise has been found dead on Pembrey beach this morning (Dec 28).
Harbour porpoises are among the smallest marine mammals and generally live close to estuaries or coastal areas.
At around four feet in length, this Harbour Porpoise is not fully grown. It is unknown what has caused its death, but the wounds to its head indicate that it could have struck an underwater obstacle or propeller.
A common cause of death for porpoises is as a result of entanglement in fishing nets, but that does not appear to have been the case in this instance.
