Sex offender jailed for breaching order

A CARMARTHEN sex offender has been jailed after he twice breached a court order aimed at controlling his behaviour.

Sean O’Farrell had served a 15 month prison sentence for distributing child pornography.

Ian Ibrahim, prosecuting, told Swansea Crown Court that at his sentencing hearing he had been made the subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order designed to restrict and monitor his behaviour after his release from prison.

After his release police officers visited his home unannounced and took away an iPhone, an examination of which revealed O’Farrell had deleted the history of 82 internet searches, which had been specifically disallowed under the SHPO.

The examination also showed that O’Farrell had set up a number of social media profiles on Snapchat, Facebook, Kik Messenger and Twitter, which had also been prohibited by the SHPO.

O’Farrell, aged 24, of Furnace Bank, admitted breaching the order.

After his arrest, said Mr Ibrahim, O’Farrell told police he knew he had been breaching the order but said the social media profiles were necessary for him to keep in touch with his brother.

Francis Jones, representing O’Farrell, said there was no evidence he had been searching for child pornography.

Judge Tracey Lloyd-Clarke said O’Farrell had deliberately gone against the order although she accepted he had not made contact with children.

“These court orders cannot be breached with impunity. A prison sentence is necessary to make it plain that these orders must be complied with,” she added.
