PEMBREY COUNTY PARK has joined forces with Coleg Sir Gar to enable students to learn about forestry work. As part of the college’s countryside management course module, students can learn how to protect and fell trees that have been damaged by the weather and are also given an opportunity to thin trees to provide more growing space for the remaining trees.

The council’s parks and countryside manager, Rory Dickinson said: “We’re thrilled to link up with the students and that the park is able to assist them in their studies. Not only does the park provide them with the perfect tools needed to learn all about forestry work, it’s convenient being so close by.”

Coleg Sir Gâr’s lecturer in countryside management, Neil Lyddon, said: “At Pembrey Country Park students are able to learn almost all aspects of the forestry industry in a realistic setting. They gain experience working with different landscapes and understand the different challenges they bring. Partnership working is essential for the development of our students and we’re grateful to organisations including Carmarthenshire County Council for allowing us to work with them on their land.”
