COMPETITORS from across mid and west Wales flocked to Pontfaen Fields on Friday, August 12, for 128th annual Lampeter Show.
The showground was bathed in warm sunshine for much of the day while the best of livestock was on display and being judged. Inside the marquees there was a wide array of tempting treats to tempt the eye and the taste-buds.
The first show under the sponsorship of the Lampeter Agricultural Society, was held in October 1877 and with the exception of the gaps caused by two world wars and adverse weather, it has continued in existence until the present day.
Since the first show, only wars and the weather have succeeded in stopping it taking place. There were no such fears this year, however, as the weather remained kind and the crowds were able to enjoy the sights and sounds of rural life, along with admiring the vehicles on display from Lampeter & District Motor Club.
While there was plenty happening on the day, competitions had been underway since the beginning of the week. At Bayliau, Cellan, on Monday the dairy cattle judging competition took place, while a further cattle judging competition took place at Tuesday at Cwmhendryd.
At the main showground, the horse competition classes were fought particularly keenly, with Euros Morgan being awarded the honour of being Supreme Champion with Dyfed Ceska.
As the day wound to an end, competitors, judges, and visitors had time to reflect on another great show which showed off the area’s rural lifestyle, community, and agricultural businesses to their best.
Lampeter Agricultural Society extended its thanks to Ceredigion County Council, Lampeter Town Council and many local Community Councils for their continued financial support; Lampeter Rugby Club and ‘Y Pantri’, High Street for the free use of rooms for Show activities; and Davies and Potter Ltd, Veterinary Surgeons, for their valuable support.
