Syria Sir Gar show a huge success

A RECENT concert held in Y Ffwrnes Theatre celebrated Welsh and Syrian culture and was hailed as a great success.

The show was held in conjunction with Syria Sir Gar.

Syria Sir Gar is a voluntary organisation, which has been set up to offer community response, support plus friendship to Syrian families who have been relocated in Carmarthenshire following the tragic situation in Syria.

MP Joe Cox spoke about the common love that is shared with regards to food, football, and music and attendees were treated to music from Rihab, a Syrian trio, and Adwaith, from Carmarthen.

The two groups even performed together, collaborating perfectly on chosen songs.

Guests of honour were Cllr Irfon Jones (Chair of Carmarthenshire County Council), Deputy Mayoress of Llanelli Cllr Louvain Roberts, Chair and Vice Chair of Llanelli Rural Council Cllr John Evans, Cllr Sian Caiach and their Consorts.

Secretary of Syria Sir Gar Paolo Piana said: “The Adwaith and Rihab show gave everybody the opportunity to enjoy Welsh and Syrian music and make new friends at the fantastic venue of Y Ffwrnes Theatre.

“Syria Sir Gar would like to thank everybody in attendance that chose to support the evening. Our guests from Carmarthenshire County Council, Llanelli Town Council, Llanelli Rural Council, Llanelli Tenant’s Association and Dyfed-Powys Police made the event extra special.

“I’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the musicians, the dedicated team at the theatre and all of the wonderful Syria Sir Gar volunteers.
“We’ve been spoilt for choice at this cultural event. Here’s hoping there will be many more in the future.”
