University not working on £220m Wellness project

SWANSEA UNIVERSITY is no longer working on the Wellness Centre and Life Sciences Village planned for Delta Lakes, Llanelli.

A University spokesperson told The Herald this morning: “The current position is that Carmarthenshire County Council has opted to dissolve the collaboration agreement for the project.

“Swansea University has requested that they share plans for how the project will be developed, funded and delivered in future and the Council of Swansea University will then consider any proposals in due course.

“At present, Swansea University is not carrying out any work on this project.”

The University’s move comes amid increasing controversy regarding the project.

Last week, Carmarthenshire County Council terminated its agreement with Sterling Health and claimed it was proceeding with the project in collaboration with Swansea University, UWTSD and Hywel Dda UHB.

The Health Board confirmed to The Herald this morning that it has made ‘no financial commitment to the scheme’.

The Delta Lakes scheme is due to be raised at tomorrow’s (Wednesday) meeting of Carmarthenshire County Council at which answers will be sought regarding the project’s future.
