Update on roadworks at A484 Carmarthen-Cenarth

DRIVERS who regularly travel along the A484 at Bronwydd will be pleased to hear that the first phase of essential road maintenance works in the area is nearing completion.

Carmarthenshire County Council has thanked motorists for their patience whilst contractors have been at work, with temporary traffic lights operating in the area for around two years.

The council’s contractor, Alun Griffiths Ltd, is nearing completion of the works at Bronwydd.

Surfacing works are scheduled for the night of October 14 and the remaining works will be carried out shortly afterwards.

The council will then commence on another scheme and will be moving 300 metres south to a section of road known as Henallt Bends where a short section of highway support works will be undertaken.

This is scheduled to take place immediately on completion of the works at Bronwydd to avoid disruption. These works are similar and will entail a concrete ground beam and safety fence.

A separate programme of works is being developed for further maintenance of the entire length of the A484 from Carmarthen to Cenarth – across some 22 miles.

The council has secured funding from Welsh Government to carry out maintenance of the highway in response to detailed inspections following Storm Callum in October 2018.

Cllr Hazel Evans, Executive Board Member for Environment, said: A programme of works is underway and every effort will be made to ensure these works are carried out with as little disruption to traffic as possible. The works will be phased and carried out in sections over a period of up to two years.

“Once again, we thank motorists for their continued patience whilst these essential works are underway.”
