Waterston: Dragon LNG chimney to be brought down by controlled demolition

A CHIMNEY stack will be demolished at Dragon LNG in Waterston, Milford Haven next weekend.

The company have confirmed that the CoGen chimney stack demolition will take place at 2pm on Sunday, September 20. The chimney is no longer required as the Cogeneration plant on site has ceased, Dragon LNG said.

An exclusion zone of 300m will be set up from the centre of the stack.

As a reminder, sirens will be sounded at 1.45pm for 1 minute, at 1.58pm for 10 seconds and a warning shot will be fired 30 seconds before the blowdown.

The company said that there is no asbestos in the chimney as this was removed in 2007.

Dragon LNG asked that spectators stay away from the site and do not block any local roads.

The company said in a Q&A leaflet: “Please consider the Waterston residents, keeping the main road through clear. At all times, stay outside the exclusion zone.”

“There will be dust …so we advise the local community to keep windows closed and take in any washing.

“The controlled demolition will be carried out by Robinson and Birdsell, who have a vast experience in this type of demolition and an excellent safety record.”
