IN ADVANCE of winter, Ceredigion residents are being advised about how and where to access the most up to date information to keep them safe.
In recent years, Ceredigion has been heavily affected by severe weather such as flooding, and as rare as these events are they do sometimes happen. Local organisations have been working closer together in the run up to winter, to ensure residents get the support they need to ensure a swift and coordinated response.
Previous severe weather events like flooding has meant that Ceredigion County Council alongside partners like Dyfed-Powys Police, Mid and West Wales Fire & Rescue Service, Natural Resources Wales, HM Coastguard, Ceredigion Association of Voluntary Organisations, the British Red Cross, and St John Cymru-Wales, have worked closely together, clearing roads, rescuing stranded motorists, pumping floodwater away, and providing care and support.
Ceredigion County Council Cabinet Member for Transport, Councillor Alun Williams, said: “The unpredictability of such incidents necessitates ongoing planning and exercising so that we can continue to provide an effective response in terms of the safety of our communities. We have been working closely with partners and the local community to try to put plans in place to mitigate and cope with severe weather.”
Ceredigion County Council together with Natural Resources Wales, have also worked within the local communities to encourage and support those most at risk to develop and implement their own localised Flood Plans, and consider severe weather responses.
Residents can also be kept updated by visiting information sharing websites (see list below) and social media pages like Facebook and Twitter.
Councillor Alun Williams adds: “During past severe weather events the Council alongside partner organisations has worked hard to support Ceredigion residents by providing emergency accommodation, assistance and advice, alongside recovery and clean-up work. Should there be a re-occurrence, we will continue to provide every assistance possible to affected communities, and relief and recovery efforts will remain our top priority.”
