Large crowd: Enjoying the spooky activities

PARENTS, children and shopkeepers were singing the praises of Llanelli’s St Elli shopping centre after its Halloween trick or treat trail on Friday (Oct 28) when with more than 200 youngsters flocked to the town centre mall for free entertainment and free sweets from the stores.

With such a large crowd, the children were split into three groups to make the trail more manageable and while some children went round the stores to be given free sweets by shop staff others enjoyed the entertainment by Crazy Clayton who told spooky funny stories and they all joined in doing the Thriller Dance at the end.

Many retailers had to replenish their sweets several times during the day, such was the turnout.

Commenting on the shopping centre’s Facebook page, mums Andrea Morris and Wendy Mathias said their children had a fantastic time and loved the event.

Sian Jones, manager of the Card Centre, said last year’s event attracted only a handful of Halloween enthusiasts but this year it really took off and everyone had a great time.

She said the event also boosted trade in the shops, a view supported by Steamin’ Mugs cafe manager Dionne Stewart who said the response was amazing and created a real community atmosphere.

“It appealed to all ages and many people came from surrounding areas as well as Llanelli and it certainly increased our sales on the day, although that was secondary to seeing so many people enjoying themselves.’’

Llanelli PCSO Scott Jones was also in the centre during the day giving some helpful advice on how to trick or treat in safety.
