Young people in Carmarthenshire asked to be Fearless against crime

THE INDEPENDENT charity Crimestoppers is promoting its educational Fearless service at a youth conference in Llanelli next month to raise awareness and tackle underreporting of crime by young people.

An initiative that has been funded by the Dyfed Powys Police and Crime Commissioner, the conference aims to inspire youth workers to empower children and young people to speak up about crime. The event follows a digital campaign running throughout February, which drew young people’s attention to the risks of exploitation, drugs and cybercrime.

Fearless provides educational tools and resources for 11 to 16-year-olds encouraging them to make positive, informed decisions around crime. The website – Fearless.org – enables them to pass on information about crime in English or Welsh language, completely anonymously and safely.

Ella Rabaiotti, Wales Regional Manager at Crimestoppers, said: “Young people can become victims, witnesses or participants in crime but often do not recognise the issues or feel confident to seek help.”

“Through the Fearless campaign and March’s event we hope more young people will be aware of the issues and report crime, either through the police, a trusted adult or through our website anonymously.”
