RESIDENTS in Penrhyn Bay and Glanwydden will attend a public meeting to discuss plans for a 3G pitch at a secondary school, following concerns about anti-social behaviour and parking.
Aberconwy MS Janet Finch-Saunders has organised the public meeting this Friday to discuss Conwy County Council’s plans to submit a planning application for a 3G pitch at Ysgol Y Creuddyn.
The 3G pitch is proposed for fields behind the school, but some residents are worried about parking problems due to increased traffic, noise, and light pollution.
Mrs Finch-Saunders said residents were unhappy there hadn’t been enough public engagement and consultation about the plans.
“There are plans going in quite soon for a new super-duper 3G pitch at Ysgol Y Creuddyn,” she said.
“The two (school) governors Cllr Chris Cater and Carol Beard, they’ve already held a meeting with the council and say they’ve engaged publicly.
“Now I had a meeting with council officers last week, and they are not prepared to do any more engagement.
“So I’ve called a public meeting, not to form an opinion, but there are lots and lots of objections to it. Residents are saying they’ve not been included in any consultations, and they fear it is too close to their house.
“Residents are worried about anti-social behaviour and noise and the lights in the winter. But there are arguments on both sides. Lots of people are for it because other schools can use it. But people are worried about parking. There is a lot of anxiety about it. But any fears people have, we’ll have the technical data for them.”
She added, “So it’s about giving residents more information, but I’m expecting a feisty meeting.”
The public meeting will take place between 6 pm and 7.30 pm on Friday 10 May at St David’s Church, 1 Penrhyn Beach East, Penrhyn Bay, Llandudno LL30 3NT.
A council spokesperson said: “A public information session about the proposal for a new all-weather artificial grass pitch was held in March. The planning application has now been submitted and is going through the usual planning process.”
