Images of how the new Tennis Centre in Bridgend could look

THIS is the image of how a major new tennis centre and swimming pool is expected to look in Bridgend, after it was given the go-ahead to be built by the council’s planning committee in November.

The new centre that will be based on land at Island Farm, Ewenny Road, will see the area turned in to a massive indoor and outdoor tennis centre with swimming pool complex.

When completed, the site will include a total of nine indoor tennis courts and supporting facilities including social areas, a café lounge, gym, and studio and health and rehabilitation services.

There will also be six outdoor tennis courts with seating areas, and enclosures constructed on the southern side of the main centre.

A spokesperson for Tennis Wales said: “Tennis Wales is incredibly excited to hear that the project has passed this important milestone.

“This centre will support the development of tennis in Bridgend County Borough and, in turn, Wales – benefiting many generations to come. Having access to more community indoor tennis courts to ensure year-round play is a central pillar of our ‘Tennis Opened Up across Wales’ strategy.”

While a date is yet to be announced for work on the site to begin, with the National Tennis Centre in Cardiff closing in 2023,  fans of the sport across Wales may see the  Island Farm project as a potential replacement for the facility.
