screen-shot-2016-09-13-at-11-10-00AS THE BANK Holiday weekend sun shone down, crowds gathered in Ammanford Park on Saturday (Aug 27) for the Super Fun Saturday, hosted by local business Solid Fuel Services in partnership with TRJ to raise money for two causes: for defibrillators in the Ammanford area; and CCTAL’s Ugandan Hospital Appeal.

In the morning, a team of 35 cyclists, including two children, cycled their way to Cwmtwrch and back. The event was started off by Plaid Cymru MP Jonathan Edwards (above), who represents Carmarthen East and Dinefwr in Westminster.

Proceedings began in the afternoon with fun and entertainment for the family.

For those who wanted to sit around and watch sport, there was a game of cricket between Ammanford and Mumbles, which Ammanford won by three wickets, Ammanford (235-7) and Mumbles (233-7).

The event continued into the evening with a raffle that included prizes of a meal for two at the Cottage, Ammanford, a lady’s scarf donated by 925 treats, and a clock donated by Time & Co, there was also a live auction with items that included an iPad air, LG TV, A box for a Scarlets Pro 12 game for 10 people and four tickets for the Wales v England game in the Six Nations.

Music was provided by 14-year old twins, Genetically Modified, who started gigging last year and the audience went wild for them! They specialise in old school rock music, that includes AC/DC, the Eagles and the Beatles.

A spokesperson said of the event: “On behalf of SFS, TRJ and CCTAL we would like to say a big thank you to everybody who helped on the day and supported the event making Super Fun Saturday a huge success. This year we introduced a 26-mile charity bike ride and would like to give a very big thank you to all 35 cyclists who took part in the event and the great effort that was made to raise sponsorship. We are very grateful to everybody who attended and have generously their hard earned cash which will go towards providing defibrillators in the Ammanford area and CCTA’s Ugandan Hospital Appeal. We are looking on building on the success of this year’s event and hope that next year’s will be as successful.”

Organisers are hopeful the final total will be in excess of £5,000.
