New ITV series explores Welsh / English borderlands on 177 mile path

THIS MONTH ITV Wales will air a new series to showcase the remarkable stories and wonderful scenery along Wales and England’s breathtaking borderlands. 

Good Morning Britain and Countryfile presenter Sean Fletcher explores the 177-mile Offa’s Dyke Path National Trail on an epic adventure along, celebrating the landscape and the people who live there. 

The six part series, Wonders of the Border will air weekly on ITV Cymru Wales from 7:30pm on Thursday 15th April before airing nationally later this year. The series will provide travel inspiration for those planning a domestic adventure as we begin to emerge from lockdown. It will highlight the unique wildlife, dramatic landscapes and vibrant communities along the National Trail, in addition to sharing the celebrations of 50 years since the opening of Offa’s Dyke Path. 

Historic Landscapes 

Join presenter Sean Fletcher as he discovers the fascinating history of Offa’s Dyke Path which is influenced by and roughly follows Offa’s Dyke, Britain’s oldest and longest monument. Dating back to the 8th century, the iconic earthwork monument of Offa’s Dyke stands up to eight metres high and was built on the command of King Offa as a divide between the two kingdoms. Today, the borderlands remain rich in natural beauty, local culture and history. Sean learns about Britain’s oldest and longest monument with outdoor adventures including kayaking and wild swimming in the River Wye to mountain biking in Llandegla Forest. 

Offa’s Dyke Path 50th Anniversary  

Meet some of the inspirational people who call the borderlands their home and unearth the stories from 50 years of Offa’s Dyke Path. As part of the 50th anniversary 25 new themed itineraries on the most iconic stretches, suitable for various abilities will be launched, focused on a number of different topics designed for different target audiences. The itineraries will consist of culture, heritage, family, mindfulness and WOW walks.

Be part of the celebrations that champion the landscapes of the borderlands along with its rich history and cultural significance. Uncover the stories from the past 50 years of Offa’s Dyke Path.

Rob Dingle, the Offa’s Dyke Path National Trail Officer welcomed news of the series.

“The last twelve months has been incredibly difficult for everybody. I am sure we will all be glad to get out and about when it is safe and legal to do so, said Rob.
