Local fire and rescue service’s staff deployed to help with Ukraine rescue efforts

MID and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service’s (MAWWFRS) International Search and Rescue Team (ISAR) has recently been deployed to assist with preparing equipment to be used in rescue efforts in Ukraine.

As a member of the United Kingdom International Search and Rescue Team (UK-ISAR), MAWWFRS crew members can be mobilised at the request of the ISAR Capability Team to undertake search, rescue and relief missions across the UK and around the world.

On June 12th-14th, UK-ISAR technicians from MAWWFRS were mobilised to Kent Fire and Rescue Service, where they were joined by ISAR Technicians from across the UK who tested, inspected and packaged equipment donated by numerous UK Fire and Rescue Services.  This equipment was then delivered to Ukraine to be used in the rescue efforts following the Kakhovka Dam collapse on June 6th, which caused extensive flooding.

The UK-ISAR Team are on-call 24-hours-a-day, 365-days-a-year to respond to humanitarian incidents, accidents or disasters anywhere in the world, to provide a search and rescue capability and support humanitarian efforts. The team has been operating for over 20 years and has components from 13 UK Fire and Rescue Services, who have successfully carried out search, rescue and relief missions around the world.
