Bluebirds beat Aber but lose to Pontypridd

HAVERFORDWEST County earned a win on Friday night (Dec 23) but suffered a last gasp defeat to Pontypridd United on Boxing Day (Dec 26).

On Friday, Aberystwyth travelled to the Bridge Meadow looking to make it a double after their win over the Bluebirds in October.

However, the home side started well and they went ahead after 10 minutes thanks to a strike from Jordan Davies.

Lee Jenkins then doubled his side’s lead midway through the first half to put the Bluebirds in a strong position.

Louis Bradford then pulled a goal back for the Black and Greens shortly before the break to restore their hopes of getting something from the game.

It remained 2-1 until late on when Ben Fawcett found the net to make it 3-1 and seal the points.

On Boxing Day, it looked as if the Bluebirds would add to that win when Jack Wilson put them ahead after 11 minutes against Pontypridd United.

However, Ben Ahmun set up Joe Evans to equalise for the home side and it looked as if they would go in at the break with the score at 1-1.

David Vincent had other ideas though and he put the home side into the lead.

With just over 15 minutes to the Bluebirds were awarded a penalty. Jordan Davies stepped up and scored to level the game at 2-2.

With time running out the game looked to be heading for a draw but in the sixth minute of time added on, Clayton Green scored what would prove to be the winning goal.

Haverfordwest and Pontypridd play the return fixture at the Bridge Meadow on Saturday, December 31, kick off at 2:30pm.
