Bluebirds extend unbeaten run with win over Pontypridd

HAVERFORDWEST County extended their unbeaten run to five matches on Friday (Apr 7) as they beat Pontypridd United 2-0 at the Ogi Bridge Meadow.

The Bluebirds had not beaten their opponents in the three previous matches this season but the win puts them seven points ahead of Caernarfon who have three games left to play.

The home side started well and the first chance fell to Henry Jones but he saw a shot blocked and from the resulting corner, Lee Jenkins headed over.

Midway through the half there was a chance for Jordan Davies but his volley was straight at the Ponty keeper.

Three minutes later though the Bluebirds were ahead as Dan Hawkins played an excellent ball through for Davies and he buried his effort into the right corner of the net.

Some desperate defending from the visitors then prevented Jones getting a shot away as the Bluebirds showed no signs of letting up.

The Bluebirds held on to their lead until the break but they knew they would face a stern challenge from Ponty in the second half.

And it was the visitors who had the first real chance as Zac Jones did well to tip a cross, that looked like it was going in, over the crossbar.

Another effort for Ponty went over the bar and they were soon made to pay for those misses.

Jordan Davies played the ball into the box and when it wasn’t dealt with, Dan Hawkins was on hand to tap the ball home to make it 2-0.

Ponty’s Margetson saw a header go over the bar late on as the visitors were unable to find a way back into the game.

Jenkins then headed wide but it did not matter as the Bluebirds held on for the win which extends their lead at the top of the Play-off conference.

The Bluebirds are next in action on Saturday, April 15, when they host Aberystwyth Town at the Bridge Meadow, kick off 5:15pm.
