Division 2: Town edge high scoring game with Pembroke Dock

HAVERFORDWEST earned their fourth win of the season on Saturday (May 20) as they beat Pembroke Dock by 19 runs.

The two sides met in Division 1 last season and in the same fixture last August, Town earned a 15-run win having scored 249 first up before the Dock fell short.

On Saturday, Town won the toss and chose to bat first and they made a good total of 254-6 from their 45 overs.

Mikey Jones hit six fours in a score of 40 but he was run out by Jake Griffiths. Ben Field and Jake Merry then shared 110 runs for the third wicket.

Field hit four fours and three sixes in his score of 65 but he fell to the bowling of Tom Grimwood.

Adam James came in and smashed three fours and two sixes in his score of 29 from 15 balls but he also fell to the bowling of Grimwood.

Grimwood finished with figures of 3-51 but they could not remove Merry. He finished unbeaten on 83 (eight fours) as the Dock were set 255 to win the game.

Jake Davies and Rhys Daley shared 108 runs for the first wicket as the Dock started well. Davies hit 11 fours in a score of 67 but he was then stumped by Jack Scriven off the bowling of Clive Tucker.

Daley followed soon after when he was bowled by Chris Phillips on a score of 29.

Scott Griffiths and George Smith then shared another 101 runs for the third wicket as they looked to put their side into a winning position.

Smith hit four fours as he reached a score of 52 but he was then caught by Phillips off the bowling of Bevan.

Adam James then bowled Jake Griffiths to leave the Dock on 214-4.

Griffiths hit four fours and a six in his score of 56 not out and while Tom Grimwood hit a late six in an unbeaten score of 10, it wasn’t enough to see the Dock over the line.

They had run out of time and finished 19 runs short of their target.

On Saturday, May 27, Haverfordwest visit Kilgetty while Pembroke Dock host Carew seconds.
