Four-goal Bluebirds down Wingmakers

HAVERFORDWEST County made it two wins from two on Saturday (Mar 18) as they beat Airbus UK 4-0 at the Ogi Bridge Meadow.

The Bluebirds had been reduced to ten men on the half hour mark but took the lead moments later and were able to see off their bottom-of-the-table opponents, who also had a man sent off in the second half.

The home side started well in front of another good crowd but Jack Wilson’s 13th minute cross was poked behind for a corner.

At the other end, keeper Zac Jones had to be alert as he diverted a dangerous cross behind for an Airbus corner.

With 25 minutes gone, Wilson sent an inviting ball into the box but it took a touch of an Airbus defender which just took it away from the feet of the arriving Ben Fawcett.

Five minutes later the Bluebirds were down to ten men following a red card shown to Ricky Watts. It was a strong challenge but the red card seemed harsh on the Bluebirds midfielder.

However, the Bluebirds did not let that affect them and three minutes later they took the lead. It was a goal made in Hakin as Wilson again crossed from the right for Fawcett who slid in to knock the ball home.

There was a chance for Airbus at the other end but Bradley Knight sent a volley harmlessly over the bar.

Ioan Evans then cut inside the box to make space but his ball across was palmed behind by the Airbus keeper.

Fawcett then had a chance to double the home side’s lead but when the ball fell to him from Wilson’s cross his shot was pushed wide by Airbus keeper Lewis Dutton.

Rhys Abbruzzese also shot wide on the stroke of half time as the Bluebirds showed no signs of letting up despite being a man down.

The whistle went with the Bluebirds in control but they knew they would need to keep the pressure on in the second half in order to take the win.

There was an early second half chance for the visitors but Adam Davies sent a header wide of the goal.

In the 63rd minute a long ball forward from Zac Jones was miss-judged and that allowed Fawcett in but he saw his effort save. The rebound though fell kindly to Evans and he tapped in to make it 2-0.

Ten minutes later the ball was played through to Fawcett but he was taken out on the edge of the box by Airbus’ Gareth Edwards who was subsequently shown a straight red card.

Jamie Veale stepped up to take the resultant free kick and he curled an excellent effort into the top right corner of the goal.

With two minutes to go, sub Jack Leahy was played in by Wilson and he crossed into the box for new signing Dan Hawkins who tapped in for a debut goal.

It was an excellent win for the Bluebirds and they now hold a four-point lead at the top of the Play-Off conference.

Haverfordwest are in action again on Saturday, March 25, as they host the side that sits directly below them in the table in Caernarfon Town, kick off 2:30pm.
