Local Hospice at Home charity, Paul Sartori Foundation have recently said farewell to Sara Alderman, a dedicated Trustee.
After an amazing 14 years, Sara has decided to step down from her Governance duties to dedicate her time to her family. Sara was introduced to the charity by Ros Raymond, Trustee and Chair of the Fundraising and Volunteer Committees, when she joined as a Voting Member in August 2008. The Charity soon spotted Sara’s talents, and connections within Pembrokeshire and persuaded her to join the Board in 2009.
Sara and her family experienced first-hand the valuable services that the Foundation provides, when her Dad sadly passed away in 2007. Sara explained “The opportunity to be a Voting Member and then Trustee enabled me give back to the Charity when they so beautifully looked after Dad in his last days, and enabled all the family to be at his side when he died.”
Sara’s highlights as a Trustee include, seeing the Foundation grow, increasing service users and the growth of the retail arm of the charity. She has been proud to be part of a professional and diligent Board and to have the superb back up from the Management team. Sara’s top achievements include introducing new Trustees, Phil Thompson (MBE) and Jason Tomlin; building connections with Roger Jefcoate CBE, her Dad’s cousin, who introduced the Charity to major funders and who personally donates and finds further funding for large projects.
Sara has been a force in raising awareness around the County. She has provided valuable business advice to strategically grow the Charity and supported the management team through an in depth business interruption claim after Covid struck the Retail and Fundraising income. Sara also initiated the relationship between the Foundation and the Charity Retail Association (CRA), which included arranging for the CEO, Warren Alexander, to attend a PSF AGM.
Sara has attended numerous cheque collections and sat on the Volunteer, Human Resource and Pay Review Committees as well as having chaired the Retail Committee. Sara enjoyed sitting on the Clinical Governance committee as the Lay person where she appreciated the in depth workings of the Clinical Team.
As a former Lady Captain of the South Pembs Golf Club, Sara chose the Paul Sartori Foundation as her Charity of the Year, raising nearly £2,000, in addition to other thousands of pounds over the years. Sara, further commented that her years as a Trustee has at times been a bit of a rollercoaster but she has enjoyed every minute of this fabulously rewarding role, working alongside a great team of Trustees and Senior Managers, and of course the fabulous volunteers. She has especially enjoyed the socials!!
Although Sara is leaving the Board of Trustees, thankfully she will remain a Voting Member to help support the Foundation and keep in touch at AGM’s and other social events organised by the Charity.
Paul Sartori Hospice at Home provides a range of services to Pembrokeshire people living in the final stages of a life-limiting illness, including home nursing care, equipment loan, complementary therapy, bereavement and counselling support, physiotherapy, advance care planning and training.
The services provided by the Paul Sartori Hospice at Home enable people in the later stages of any life-limiting illness to be cared for and to die at home with dignity, independence, pain free and surrounded by those they hold most dear, if that is their wish.
All of the services are free of charge and are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, thanks to the generosity of the Pembrokeshire Community.
