MILFORD HAVEN councillor, Stephen Joseph, has announced that he is to start a town choir. The new group will be called The Nantucket Wailers, an apparent play on words in tribute to the town’s whale fishing history.
Cllr Joseph, who will became the mayor of Milford Haven later this year, said that the idea of starting a choir came to him when he realised that it would be of fantastic benefit to the town.
Cllr Joseph said: “I realised on Remembrance Sunday that there were not that many people singing. Not everyone had song sheets, some people were cloud-watching. It came to me, why not start a choir for Milford Haven. The choir would be at community and charity events, and would be great fun for everyone involved.
Cllr Joseph has recruited John Brewer as the choir’s musical director. Mr Brewer is an accomplished singer, songwriter and keyboardist and says that his is looking forward to being the choirmaster of the Nantucket Wailers.
The first meeting of the choir will be on Wednesday (Jan 14) at the Nantucket Church between 6pm and 7pm
Cllr Joseph said: “We want people of all ages, even if you think you cant sing please come along, we’ll have a wail of a time!”
Children under sixteen must be accompanied by an adult.
