Ammanford beaten by Haverfordwest in friendly

AMMANFORD tasted defeat on Tuesday night (July 13) as they were beaten 2-1 by Haverfordwest County.

Ammanford featured Swansea legend Leon Britton in their starting line up while Haverfordwest included new signing Mason Jones-Thomas, a former Swansea academy player, who signed just a few days ago.

There was an early error from new keeper Lee Idzi whose loose kick was pounced on by Ammanford but the shot was sent wide of the net much to Idzi’s relief.

Henry Jones was then sent through for the Bluebirds but his shot was saved by the Ammanford keeper.

On 14 minutes, Kai Whitmore was brought down inside the box and a penalty was given. Whitmore picked himself up and scored the spot kick to continue his impressive start to pre-season.

New signing Jones-Thomas then won a penalty for the Bluebirds six minutes later but Elliot Scotcher saw his spot kick pushed wide by Ammanford keeper Craig Morris.

With two minutes to go until half time the Bluebirds were level as the ball was played over the top for Jones who held the ball well before passing to Scotcher who fired in to make amends for his penalty miss.

The Bluebirds started the second half the better of the two sides with Jones seeing an early chance fly over the bar before taking the lead six minutes in.

The referee waved play on after a foul and Jones laid the ball off to Jones-Thomas who slotted the ball in for his first goal in his first start for the Bluebirds.

Both sides made rolling substitutions on what was a warm evening and it meant chances were few and far between.

With just under fifteen minutes to go Jones-Thomas was instrumental again as he found Kurtis Rees but he saw his shot saved by Morris.

Ammanford pushed forward late on as they looked for an equaliser but a dangerous looking cross was cleared for a corner.

With six minutes to go Dylan Rees was sent off after he was adjudged to have been the last man when he made a challenge on the edge of the box.

Ammanford continued to search for a second goal but it never came as the Bluebirds dealt well with whatever the home side had to throw at them.

The full time whistle was blown giving the Bluebirds their first win of pre-season in what was a good run out for both sides.
