Ammanford earn vital win

AMMANFORD earned their ninth win of the season on Friday night (Apr 8) as they beat Taffs Well 1-0.

This game was a close encounter for Ammanford and the first half produced very few chances for either side.

Ammanford, playing down the slope in their lime green away kit, had the better of the play with the best chance falling to young Tristan Jenkins who saw his effort saved by Taffs Well goalkeeper Edward King.

With the score at 0-0 at half time the game was there for the taking and it was the Wellmen who made the better start to the second half.

They came more and more into the game and they came very close to a goal when they hit the post before Ammanford managed to clear from the ensuing goal mouth scramble.

Taffs Well were mostly restricted to long range efforts as the superb Ammanford defence, well marshalled by the excellent Craig Morris held firm.

This was a crucial match for Ammanford which was evident from the sheer effort put in by the team. The best of the chances in the second half fell to Matthew Fisher who twice fired over the crossbar.

Ammanford were frustrated several times in the Taffs Well penalty area with the ball not falling for them on what can best be described as a bobbly pitch.

Just as it looked as if the match was heading for a goalless draw Mathew Fisher popped up with a low shot into the bottom right hand corner of the net to score the winner and set off scenes of sheer jubilation in front of the away dug out amongst players and a large contingent of travelling fans.

Fisher getting a yellow card for his celebrations. Ammanford then saw out a period of seemingly never ending injury time to clinch three vital points.
