Bridge hold on to beat Neyland

MERLINS BRIDGE earned their sixth win of the season on Saturday (Feb 5) as they withstood a late fight back from Neyland.

The Wizards raced into a three goal lead but Neyland hit back in the second half to make it 3-2 but they were unable to find an equaliser.

It looked as if the sides were going to go in at the break with the score at 0-0 but an own goal from Dylan Rowland gave Merlins Bridge a 1-0 lead.

The points looked to have been secured in the opening minutes of the second half as the Wizards scored two quick goals.

Jordan Williams scored and just a minute later Will Haworth got his name on the scoresheet to make it 3-0 to the visitors.

Midway through the second half though Neyland were awarded a penalty, which was converted by Paul Hannon to give the home side some hope of a comeback.

They battled well but didn’t get their second goal back until injury time when Hannon scored his second of the game.

That was the end of the scoring though as Merlins Bridge held on for victory.

On Saturday, February 12, both sides are in action in the Senior Cup quarter finals. Neyland host St Clears while Merlins Bridge travel to rivals Hakin United.
