Bronwydd and Llangennech earn wins

BRONWYDD earned a crucial win on Saturday (Jun 30) as they beat Swansea Civil Service by 17 runs in Division 1 of the South Wales Cricket Association.

James Cales and George Gleeson both scored 17 while Oliver Furneaux scored 34 and Meirion Davies scored 38 as Bronwydd made 189-9.

Dylan Bebb was the pick of the Swansea bowlers as he took five wickets for the loss of 29 runs.

Damian Devonald then scored 19 in Swansea’s reply while there were scores of 39 from Ben Novis and 41 from Thomas Milford.

However, some excellent bowling, including three wickets from Matthew Vaughan and three from Meirion Davies helped bowl Swansea out for 172.

Also in Division 1, Dafen were bowled out for 136 in their game against Cowbridge.

Tom Williams took six wickets for Cowbridge as he reduced Dafen single-handedly to 52-7.

Nicky Davies scored 22 for Dafen and Jonathan Randell scored 33 before a late score of 43 helped his side to a total they could try and defend.

Philip George had Ben Wright caught by David Dunfee for a score of 37 but unbeaten scores of 42 from Tatenda Chiradza and 58 from Thomas Merilaht saw Cowbridge to victory.

Llandysul were also beaten as they lost to Gorseinon by three wickets at Tir Dref.

Ieuan Paske and Rhidian Harris had got Llandysul off to a good start with an opening stand of 64 but wickets began to fall regularly.

Paske made 32 before falling to the bowling of Joe Baker and Rhidian Harris scored 39.

Andrew Edwards scored 41 but he quickly began to run out of partners as Llandysul slipped from 101-4 to 155 all out.

Arfon Jones took three wickets for Llandysul as they did their best to stop Gorseinon but it wasn’t quite enough.

Connor Barry made 15 and Chris Morgan made 17 but the star of the show for the visitors was Josh Simmons who finished unbeaten on 83.

On Saturday (Jul 7), Bronwydd are at home to Cowbridge while Dafen take on Llandysul.

In Division 2, Llangennech earned another win as they bowled Maesteg out for just 94.

Simon Clement took six wickets as Maesteg were reduced to 31-6. Scores of 24 from Ashley Colston and 22 from Andrew Whelan prevented Maesteg being bowled out sooner.

Openers Hedd-Wyn Jones and Scott Lloyd then took Llangennech to within touching distance of their target before Jones was caught and bowled for a score of 49.

It was left to Lloyd to hit the winning runs as he finished not out on 34 to see his side over the line with plenty of time to spare.

Felinfoel were also victorious as they restricted Briton Ferry Town to 161 all out in reply to their earlier score of 188 all out.

Andrew Thomas scored 35 and Rhys Harries scored 28 as Felinfoel made a good start to their innings. Rhys Jones made 48 and Jonathan Cheal scored 47 and they looked well set on 167-4 to go on and make a big total.

However, a late collapse saw them limp to 188 all out as Adeel Khan and Yakoob Ali both took three wickets.

Ali then scored 50 in Briton Ferry’s reply but no other batsmen made more than 20 as four wickets from Tom Jones derailed their chances of victory.

Rohan Nangalia and Jonathan Cheal also took two wickets apiece as they bowled them out 27 runs short of their target.

On Saturday (Jul 7), Felinfoel are at home to Llangennech in a clash of third versus second and Drefach are away as they take on Maesteg.
