Cresselly beat Carew in thriller

CRESSELLY moved into second place in Division 1 on Saturday (Jul 9) as they beat rivals Carew by three wickets in a thrilling contest.

In bright sunshine, Cresselly won the toss and chose to field and they saw Carew post an impressive score of 275-6 from their 45 overs.

The mainstay of the innings was Tim Hicks who played superbly for his knock of 104. He had good support from Shaun Whitfield who scored 48 and Gareth Lewis who added 41.

Charlie Arthur took two wickets as he finished with 2-66 while Simon Cole (2-40) also struck twice.

In reply, Adam Chandler scored 54 and Iwan Izzard added 59 for Cresselly as they went in search of victory.

Shaun Whitfield bowled well as he finished with figures of 3-44 while Iori Hicks took 2-78.

They were unable to remove Alex Bayley as he finished unbeaten on 79 to see Cresselly over the line

The win gives Cresselly 18 points and they now sit level on points with new leaders Narberth.

On Saturday, July 16, Cresselly host Haverfordwest while Carew visit Lawrenny.
