Cwm suffer defeat against Rangers

AFTER a strong showing against top of the table Ynysygerwn, Cwm were hopeful of going one better against visitors Penrhiwceiber who had also been struggling for some form.

Unfortunately Cwm chose the match to put in their poorest performance to date. A good holiday Saturday crowd of well over 100 saw the visiting side show the more urgent and creative approach from the very beginning.

The first half saw very little from both sides in terms of goal threat but Penrhiwceiber had the upper hand and once again the dreaded curse of the approaching half time break struck Cwm when a failed defensive clearance saw Morgan Andrews who was having an excellent game spot Kai Rees off his line to perfectly lob him for the lead for the visitors.

Cwm came out with manager Paul Lewis’ words ringing in their ears only to be caught by a sucker punch immediately as the ball was moved wide and a neat pass across the goal saw the fast approaching Andrew Ellis tap it home.

A disastrous five minutes and Cwm were chasing the game where the visitors continued to seem comfortable. Substitute Scott Jewell had the best chance when a brave header could not keep low enough to cause damage.

Cwm huffed and puffed but could not create much and Penrhiwceiber saw it through for a deserved 2-0 win.

Cwm now take a break from league action as they play Brynawel FC at Grenig Park, on Saturday, September 3, kick off 2.30pm, in the FAW Trophy
