Derby deadlock for Cwmamman and Ynysygerwn

CWMAMMAN United and Ynysygerwn fought out another tough match where for the third meeting running they have not been able to get the better of each other.

This game is always a fascinating contest where Ynys usually with their more physical and direct approach meet the counter quickly approach of Cwmamman. This was a little different with Ynys often building patiently while Cwm fired balls into centre forward Alex Giardelli and Leon Croucher’s long throws regularly peppered the Ynys box.

With both sides as competitive as always the centre of the park was a key area and for Cwm Ross Morgan, Sion Dafydd Williams and Calem Rees battled well. It was a game of limited clear chances but Cwm had three good half chances where a more clinical finish should have seen a goal.

The game ebbed and flowed and both sides pushed hard but defences held firm with Cory Saunders , Callum Dougal, Ronan Templeton and Croucher working hard.

With Cwm enjoying a good spell and Kyle Ashford and Kieran Richards running at the Ynys defence Cwm looked the more likely winner but the whole momentum changed when Templeton had to go off for a badly cut eye and Dougal was sent off for a second yellow as the ref adjudged hime to have run across the keeper as he cleared from hand.

The final 15 mins was a heroic defensive effort as Ynys sensed their chance and launched wave after wave of attack squandering two golden chances when firing over the bar with Kai Rees in the Cwm goal facing them down while Kai also produced an excellent save tipping the shot past the post.

To their relief Cwm saw it through for their first point of the season while it was enough to send Ynysygerwn to the top of the table.
