Ammanford beaten at home by Goytre Utd

AMMANFORD slumped to a disappointing home defeat at the hands of struggling Goytre Utd on Friday evening (Sept 30) as Gavin Jones returned to torment his former team at The Rec.

A scrappy start saw both teams struggle to get a foothold in the game. Ammanford had to wait until the 25th minute for their first goalscoring opportunity with Callum Silcox forcing Goytre goalkeeper Connah Mcfenton into a fine save.

Gavin Jones put Goytre ahead in the 34th minute, picking up a fine through ball and racing clear of the Ammanford defence before slotting the ball past keeper Kyle Marsh.

Goytre doubled their lead three minutes later when the unfortunate Danny Birch deflected the ball past his own keeper from a cross ball on his return from injury against his former club.

Gavin Jones then produced a fine save from Ammanford keeper Marsh in the 41st minute as the away team went in search of more goals.

Kieran Howard gave Ammanford a lifeline in first half injury time, planting a firm header into the net from a Jordan Langley cross.

Ammanford came out at the start of the second half in search of an early goal however failed to create many clear cut chances and were frustrated by a resilient away defence.

Gavin Jones extended Goytre’s lead in the 72nd minute when he saw a deflected shot loop over keeper Marsh and into the net. If Ammanford had hopes of rescuing the match their job was made harder in the 77th when Birch saw red for a second bookable offence.

The outstanding Jordan Langley then gave ten man Ammanford hope with a sublime finish from outside the area in the 85th minute.

This set up a frantic finale as Ammanford desperately went forward in search of an equaliser.

Ammanford had a penalty appeal for handball turned down in injury time and despite throwing everything at the Goytre defence they were unable to find a third goal, the referee’s whistle bringing an end to a disappointing night for the home team.
