Hakin prove too strong for Merlins Bridge

HAKIN United earned another win on Tuesday night as they beat Merlins Bridge 4-0 at the Racecourse.

Another good crowd gathered to watch the match between the two rivals but it was the Vikings, who still hold hopes of a title win, who got the first goal of the game.

They had earlier chances to score with a shot being cleared off the line while another shot went over from a Camron Thomas cross.

But the opening goal came after 24 minutes as Jack Britton fired a shot into the top left corner of the net.

Seven minutes later Hakin doubled their lead. Gareth Fawcett saw a header saved by the Bridge keeper but the Wizards failed to clear and after a scramble in the box it was Justin Harding who poked the ball home.

Fawcett then saw a header go wide towards the end of the half but Hakin still held a 2-0 lead when the half time whistle went.

Merlins Bridge looked to get back into the game in the second half but were unable to find a way through the Hakin back line.

They eventually made the points safe eight minutes from the end as Shane Walsh found the back of the net to make it 3-0.

Just a minute later Craig Nicholson got his name on the scoresheet to complete a comfortable evening for the Vikings.

Hakin’s final game of the season takes place on Thursday, April 21, when they host Fishguard.
